Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get emails with the events of JRR Tolkien’s The The Silmarillion - the myth arc that is the foundation for The Lord of the Rings - in chronological order over the course of 2024.

Each day of the year (from January 20 to December 31) covers 3 years of in-universe time, so that you can get a clear understanding of the pace at which the events in the book progress. Many parts of the book are not laid out in chronological order, so this provides a new understanding of when events are happening relative to each other.

During January 1st to January 19th, emails will cover events prior to the awakening of the Elves.

The majority of emails will be less than one page; a smaller number will be 2-5 pages; and only a handful will be longer than 5 pages.

Discussion of the emails - if enough people get involved! - will largely be on tumblr under the #silm daily or #silmarillion daily hashtags.

This newsletter is intended primarily for people who already own a copy of The Silmarillion and are interested in seeing the events of the book in a new form and format.
